CLARKSTON MINI'S SHINE FOR JUDY MURRAY
The Clarkston boys did the club proud at the Judy Murray Tournament, held at Dunblane Sports Club. Scott Wylie made his way through the draw, after winning all his matches in the group section, the quarters and semis. Scott went on to win both sets in the final 7-6 and 7-4. It was a well matched final with some lengthy rallies in both sets with Scott finding his best tennis in the second set to win with relative ease despite a late surge from his opponent.

Jack Beaton finsihed runner up in his section, winning 5 matches from 7 played. Jack lost his opener 7-6 in a very tight match to eventual Scott Wylie's eventual opponent in the final, and narrowly missing out on a place in the last 8.

Sam Ballantyne also did Clarkston proud, again finishing runner-up in his section of the draw winning 4 matches from 6, again just missing out on a quarter final place.

Andy Murray's granfather, Roy Erskine presented the trophy to a delighted Scott Wylie.

Mens 1st Team End of Season Report

In their best season for a few years, Bradshaw's Bandits completed their league campaign at Western 3.

Having suffered their only defeat, 1-8, at Newlands 2 (division champions) and beating DL West End 5-4, they knew that a 9-0 win at Western would put them into the playoff for promotion to Division 1/1.

The match was hard fought throughout the 3 couples, with "Hard Boiled" and "Bad Bounce" taking 3 at 1st, followed by "The Hedge" and "Bamber the mad giraffe" playing a nail biting 3rd set coming back from 2-5 to win in the tie break. So far so good!

Meanwhile, the old classics "Bentley" and "Rolls Royce" (combined ages circa 105 years), smarting from a shock 1-2 defeat the week before by DL West End (combined ages 25 years), toughed out a 2 set lead after being down breaks in both sets. The final set went with serve until 3-3 when the "Rolls" was broken, and after holding for a 5-3 lead, Western only needed to hold serve to secure the set. With the "Bentley" serving to stay in the set, a couple of bizarre rallies saved set points until the Clarkston duo succumbed and lost out 6-3, but winning the match 2-1. With a final result of 8-1 the playoff place had eluded the "Bandits".

Although slightly disappointed not to make the playoff, it has been a good league campaign, played with excellent team spirit.

Well played Dylan, Euan, David, Steven, Eric, Ross, Derek and Graeme.

Good luck to the 2nd team Squadron against East Kilbride, where a few sets should secure 2nd place and promotion to Division 1/2.

It's Becoming A Habit

Friday night saw Clarkstons bowlers secure more silverware for the club bringing the haul to a total of 6 and its only June!

This time success was in the Hillpark Jubilee Cup where Clarkston defeated a strong Thornliebank rink to retain the trophy. The victorious Clarkston four were Malcolm McLaren, Ken Murchie, Malcolm Burns and Jim Meers.
The Clarkston victory was further sweetened when both teams recorded wins in the Hillpark league to send the club top over local rivals Giffnock.

TRY TENNIS A SMASHING SUCCESS FOR THE CLUB.
On Sunday afternoon the Tennis Section of CB&TC hosted a 'Try Tennis' open day to give local community the chance to test their tennis skills. The response was fantastic and all afternoon the courts were crammed with happy children and families all taking their first steps on the road to Wimbledon. A big thanks must go to Lesley Taylor, Sharon Mitchell, Carol Milne, Ian Henderson, Jill Montgomery, Jon Slack and Syd Willox for giving of their time to ensure that everybody on court had a racket and a chance to play. Our playing numbers were swelled with many taking out membership and the club has benefited in receiving over £1300 in additional subscriptions. For those of you who joined the club thank you and welcome. I hope you have a great time on court.

Pairs Win Through To District Final
Clarkston's pair of Malcolm McLaren and Craig Bolling edged a step closer to the national finals at Ayr with a 21 - 9 win over their Newlands opponents.
A poor start saw the Newlands pair open up a 7 - 1 lead after six ends, but a an excellent counter attack on the next two ends saw Clarkston pick up a 2 and a 7 to take a 10 - 7 lead. The Clarkston pair never looked back and ran out comfortable winners.
They now play the district final at Rutherglen next Thursday against either Burnside or Cathcart.
